It's late, and I'm feeling a bit loopy I suppose. So, here goes nothing...

Tactic- Star trek

Upsetting the balance of a forum is the first major step for a Rebel Leader to push a forum into revolt. Star Trek is yet another tactic in his arsenal used to reach this point. The underlining principle is this- it's time to take the forum where no man has gone before...

This tactic works only on special interest forums. A series of threads are started that question the 'why' of the forum topic. Most people simply never bother to think very deeply about why they do something, and the barrage of these 'why is football' type questions on a sports forum, for example, starts to get people thinking.

People aren't used to thinking, and if these threads are well tended, the who forum will realize, over time, that they can't stand one another. Once this boiling point is reached, even Admin will be helpless to contain it for some time. One thing is always certain- on this episode, the Enterprize will fly through a star and explode.

This tactic takes quite a bit of time investment, as the threads must be constantly stimulated.

I think I know what you mean - too much speculation causes wank? If so, I've seen this, though it was started by Fanboys. Wasn't pretty.

Yup. Fanboys, Bishops and sometimes Ego will start this up too, but usually those folks aren't doing it for the purpose of revolution, just agitation or even sincerity. Forums that are in the middle of this are just waiting for someone to come along and assume control.

I can dig it. How about expanding the name to Star Trek: The Doomsday Machine, though? Just layer on the fandom, while leaving the door open to more Star Trek prefixed tactics/strategies/stuff.

I've also seen Newbies of TV show/movie/video game fandoms start up these topics out of curiosity. Usually they want answers about some gaping plot hole, and they have no idea of the wank they'll unleash.

Wow, I didn't think anybody realized I was gone! Laughing

Yeah, I pop in every once in awhile if I can think of something good to say. Wink

I am going to give this one a try ... I'm not too sure I'll get it right, but I think its worth a shot.

Sorry for the double post, but here is what I came up with on a zombie fan site, where they allow fanfiction to be posted (it may actually be the best site for zombie fanfiction on the net).

Just off the top of my head ... Do you guys think this will be effective?

Sure there are the easy answers to this question, but I'm looking a bit deeper.

Writing, generally, is used to preserve and communicate information. In this way it is quite successful. Hammurabi's code of laws is widely known to be an example of the first time a ruler proclaiming publicly to his people an entire body of laws, arranged in orderly groups, so that all men might read and know what was required of them. This seems to have worked out well for society, but it may also have not.

As far as writing fiction, what is the trigger in human beings that causes us to create these worlds and characters. And even beyond that, where does the motivation come from ... That someone can put in so much time and energy to produce a fully fleshed out story and world, dedicating a good portion of time to this often fruitless endeavour?

From fiction to fanfiction. This is the one that gives me the most trouble, philisophically. We here are all fans of GAR zombie movies, and others from the genre. Apparently, the appreciation of this genre, combined with the as yet unnamed trigger that pushes us to write fiction in the first place, culminates in an attempt to create stories from someone elses diegesis (the world of the story, both onscreen and off in movies, and on the page/between the lines in fiction). From where does this need arise ... and just as importantly, where do we get the stamina to actually go through with it, when we know the chances of this activity bearing fruit are pretty remote?

Well, you have a lot of catching up to do.

Harvest Moon is now the entire forums whipping boy because he's a waste of a human life. He thought it'd be cute to brag about stalking his ex into therapy. Everyone except Anarchy_Balsac was repulsed by this (A_B has some kind of Libertarian doublethink that allows him to juggle morals), so you can pretty much do whatever you want to the little pigfucker.

Anarchy_Balsac has been outed as an uncreative troll, so rather than feeding him everyone replies to his posts with nonsense. The only person who even acknowledges his obvious trolling as if it was a real discussion is Fence Sitter, but that may be to simply torture him further. A_B has been systematically outmanuevered by all of the active posters, and due to his shaky definition of the word "evidence", all members of this board (except Harvest Moon) has been given an honorary "I kicked Anarchy's Bals" pin just for not agreeing with him.

teamtunafish is dead. I sabotaged her cruise ship's navigational computer so it wound up sinking in the arctic. Hey, I told her to stop posting existing warrior but adding the word "original" in the description. Besides, it was a fitting end.

Smite attempted to play both sides of a war he incited between FW and another forum. He did it so badly and overtly he is no longer welcome in either forum. It is kind of funny to watch him pretending nothing happenned, but it's getting old.

Active posters from the board have formed a Barbarian Horde.

Indeed, you also missed the wrath of caricaturist thread which spanned about 54 pages. It involved fighting a "master debater" then an invader from the same board I destroyed the backstabber Smite on came over here and got so confused she had a headache and thought we were all people she knew, then Fence Sitter buried A_B in crap, Smite fling himself at me once more and got pwned, and the original person who started the thread came back just to get shut down again.

The funniest thing about this is that now I have a reputation for being a backstabbing, untrustworthy, asshole. It sticks, and now I no longer have to backstab anybody...*does a dance of Idleness*

Thats two words.

*Really annoying Grammarian act off*
Wink

I must admit, that was one of the fastest growing threads I've ever seen. I went off overnight and it had grown exponentially in size by the end of the next day.

*Really annoying Nitpick act on* That was a logic error, not a grammar error! You meant to say you were Nitpick!*Really annoying Nitpick act off* Wink

I'm just kidding with yah. Very Happy Anyone who's seen my posts knows I couldn't care less about spelling. Though you should be warned that pointing out someone else's grammar/spelling errors increases the odds of making one yourself. Proven fact!

What about charicaturist? It ballooned up over 30 pages in 24 hours.

I believe that was the thread he was reffering to.

Hmm, its an interesting idea, maybe you're right. We could have a nice long debate about whether two words constitutes a logic problem or a grammer problem, but it'd be so incredibly dull that I'm just going to conceed the point. I was only doing it because I was so bored last night (four hours of chemistry revision will do that to you).
*Edit:On reflection it is simply bad mathematics*

Yeah, and that was the thread I was referring to, perhaps I didn't make it clear enough.

Hey, no worries. I was only nitpicking to play along.

Yeah, I know, my mind was seizing on the question which it was as a way of getting away from all the chemistry that was pouring out of my ears.

Ah, well, chemistry practical over now, now its the MATHS paper coming up I've got to worry about. Sad
