I and my friends have come across forumers like this before...
Bishop is a distant cousin of Deacon, with one difference. While Deacon will bombard opponents with relentless religious drivel, Bishop is more subtle. He will seek to keep the forum relatively calm, avoiding open conflict, yet he will still use bible quotations and preaching as his main arsenal when on the recieving end of things.
Bishop is likely to ally himself with Deacon, and while Atheist may attempt to draw him into the fray, he will fail, because unlike Deacons, Bishop is a quieter, more contemplative forumer.[/b] _________________ Ribbity Ribbit. Croakety Croak. Ribbity Ribbit.

Heh, sort of a Deacon that actually practices what he preaches. Its a pity that more Deacons aren't Bishops.
For clarity, what's the major difference between this and Messiah?
EDIT: Oh right: Messiah doesn't really have anything to do specifically with Religion, but that's just how he acts. NVM the above line. _________________ Big Cat |

Hmm... basically this is just a religious guy who doesn't shove his beliefs down others throats.
I've seen a few of these and met one in combat. There were very few flames (at least between me and him) and it was actually quite the civilized round of combat. Though, he was, in many respects, beaten, he maintained a relatively cool head throughout the discussion and didn't loose much respect on the forum. After that, I will suggest this to any Bishops out there... when discussing scientific matters, please, for your sake, don't quote scripture. It doesn't help your case at all and may hurt your credibility with other forum members. |

I agree with #1. Just because he is nice and polite, doesn't mean he isn't a Deacon. If "he will still use bible quotations and preaching as his main arsenal" then I don't see how he is not a Deacon.
I can see the difference, I just think it is too miniscule for a unique warrior. Deacon's description is rather negative, so one might like a nicer version of the same thing, but I think it IS just another version of the same thing.

I disagree. Cathurian posted this thread with a great example of Bishop. Watch how Thanatopsis Azraelis handles the condescending Atheist TygherRayn. _________________

I've had the opportunity to watch both Deacon and Bishop up close. I think the main difference is that Deacon wants to quote scriptures and pound pulpits everywhere, especially when it isn't appropriate. If the mods ask him to chill, he will rant about how he is being "persecuted" for his beliefs. On the other hand, Bishop is a more sincere and mature believer who is likelier to obey forum rules and avoid egregious arguments over religion.
In a recent incident at a board where I'm a mod, a Bishop ended up being the only member who was able to calm down a raving Deacon by pointing out that it isn't necessary to use the bible to justify every argument. Because this admonition came from a fellow bible-believer with well-known conservative credentials, it took Deacon right out of the fight. |
