The Alternator

A true believer in the concept that one's greatest ally is himself, The alternator is like Imposter Mk2. he may not seem a particularly powerful warrior on his own, but the moment he's losing a battle, an army of allies rush to his aid out of nowhere. The Alternator's greatest secret and source of power is in that he has one or many alternate accounts. instead of pretending to be one person that he isn't, he pretends to be many people at the same time. his tactic is to frighten away more gullible warriors by convincing them he has far more allies than he does. a seasoned warrior can often see through The Alternator's guise, and once exposed, The Alternator will flee the field of battle in shame. CAUTION: The Alternator can confound even Nanny and Admin, because unless each and every one of his alternate accounts is ferreted out and destroyed, banning is often useless against him.

Librarian

Librarian is counterpoint to The Alternator, and an upgrade of Pithy Phrase. While the Alternator is in fact one person pretending to be many, Librarian is many people speaking as one. while he may seem clumsy and inarticulate at most times, when pushed to combat he seems to suddenly possess a breadth of knowledge even vaster than Philosopher's. how does he do it? Librarian has help, that's how. either he has friends hanging around who'll provide him information, or, more likely, he works at or is posting from a library, and has their near infinite resources at his disposal whenever they are needed. Librarian is extremely difficult for even the most powerful of warriors to best, for even the mightiest of Kung-Fu Masters can fall before the collective might of hundreds of authors. the only way to expose the Librarian and defeat him is to back him into a point which he cannot find a book to support.

I like both of these, especially since I've done something similar to a Librarian myself once, and had somebody with a personal grudge against me try to pull an Alternator on me.

I do know one way an Alternator can be caught and stopped easily by Admins and Nannies - checking all these names to see if they have the same IP. If they do, the Admin can just ban the guy by his IP. That way, he won't be able to use any of his alternate accounts. The only way an Alternator can prevent this is by either using an IP spoofer or a dial-up modem. Of course, if he has dial-up, he'd have to log off and log back on between switching accounts, which would take him some time! Laughing

IP matching tools work realy well against alternators, I have seen a number of them.

Well, I know that the (Abused) Delusional posters I've nominated frequently resort to Alternator tactics, especially to level threats or obscenities.

What about the idiot who posts on every thread to say "whatever", "shut up" and "get a life"?
