For those who lead a double life (or just have a really nasty kink they would rather keep under wraps), this little occurrence could quite possibly ruin their reputation in a community where they are considered 'respectable'.
Basically, Small World is an event in which, seemingly out of nowhere, a newbie pops up on a forum, recognizes one of the members from another (less savory) board, and is all-too-eager to make it public knowledge. As soon as the member is discovered, the noob will usually post something like "HEY, I KNOW YOU!", followed by tawdry details (usually in the form of a question) such as: "Long time, no see! Remember when we traded nude pics? teehee Hey, are you still into fisting?".
Usually, this happens by accident... some odd twist of fate is to blame. However, there are instances in which a Troll with exceptional investigative abilities will purposefully seek out their target, and reveal their 'other side'. Another scenario is when a Troll runs into a familiar face, genuinely by accident, and eagerly grasps the opportunity to expose them, as if it were a gift from the Trolling Gods (which, of course, it is).
Small World becomes a potent tactic (i.e. Smear Campaign), if intentionally induced. |

I've heard of this happening, but I've also seen it fail a number of times, too; every so often you'll have someone who attempts to pull it off by going to their first resort; google.
Now here's something kind of sad that some people don't realize; there's enough people on the internet now that your going to run into duplicate screen names; an awful lot of them in fact. Take mine for instance; there's at least 4 different people (just that I know of) using the one I have here elsewhere.
I have never, as far as I know, met any of these people, but I have had people attempt to prove I was them for the nefarious purpose you've pointed out, and so far the rule's been it's a hard sell whenever they try it, mostly because for whatever reason, people just don't believe me capable of some of the various things some people sporting a duplicate screen name of mine have claimed interest in.
Usually in a long standing community where people know each other well (or at least feel they do) the only thing it'll do is make the person trying it an immediate target; sometimes even of the person's enemies, oddly enough. |

This is a good one, and one of the reasons I pick usernames that choke google with countless results. _________________

Well, I'd like to add that this usually happens by accident, and nyms needn't be similar in order to get 'discovered'.
Case & point: About 5 months ago, I was Trolling a fat forum (i.e. fat women and the men who love them) and, while sifting through the introduction threads, lo and behold, I spied a very familiar face. It was a fellow from the old Halford board that I had gotten booted from, a couple of years ago. Apparently, he's into fat chicks (and I'm not talking about the merely curvaceous... I'm talking seriously obese). Anyhow, he had posted his photo, so that is how I knew it was him. It was one of those freak coincidences that gave me major giggles, and I'm still debating on whether or not I should reveal his *ahem* interests to his head-banging buddies on the Halford board. I'm sure he would get some serious ribbing over it, which would be fun to watch. However, I've never had any issues with him, so I don't feel particularly motivated to use this information. Meh... I have bigger fish to fry.
In conclusion, I'd like to remind everyone that using a different nym on every board wont necessarily save your ass. If somebody knows you well enough and has observed you closely, anything is possible. Each word you type is information. *shrug* I certainly know that I'm easily spotted, wherever I go. But then, I don't really try to hide, and have nothing to lose. My reputation is, generally, awful on all the boards I've been a member of. |

Hum, Daymare out of curiosity ...
what is it like in the "Fat Forum?" ...just wondering.
Sorry Irritus for interrupting, please forgive me.

Well, let's see...
There's a whole lot of 300 lbs+ slop-hogs, posting *gulp* nude photos of themselves. And then there are the men (and I use that term loosely) who hang around and (apparently) wank to the orgy of flab.
Aren't you glad you asked? |

Hm? I was never annoyed with you in the first place. No need to apologize for anything. _________________

This happens to me all the time, because I'm famous. Good job spam bots, bumping up a topic that can appeal to my ego... lol. _________________ The mass, whether it be a crowd or an army, is vile. |

When have I ever hid that? lol. Yes, I'm narcissistic. But I do have morals, I do want there to be a better world. But there's no reason I shouldn't be able to do that without my name in neon lights.
This is why I'm writing a book. To fulfill both. It's like a self help guide, mixed in with some documentary, and philosophy. What if Karl Marx, Nietzsche, and Ayn Rand formed a megazord? This guy!
