Flame Warriors ~ View topic - Comissioning research on Battleground: Chat Room

For obvious reasons, chat rooms, irc chanells, aim, etc. are an entirely different microcosm of the internet, yet strangely very similar to the one we all know and love, forums.

My initial observations are that the conversations are shorter, more surface level, and more likely to degenerate into mindless insipidity. One could argue that little skill in trolling is required to send the typical chatter over the edge, and little skill in arguing is required to best their tired collection of ad homs, yo momma jokes, and insipid Chuck Norris trivia. Unfortunately any attempts to do so are greeted with cries of "no one cares", "go to hell, lamer", and of course more yo momma jokes.

With that in mind, I believe more research is needed to point out the special warriors, factors, and events that define the chat room as a battleground, and the unique tactics and ordnance that work well there.

I assume you'll be doing all of the undercover exhaustive work at going into these chatrooms?

But, any info you or anyone else can contribute would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, chat rooms are a whole other world (just like wikis and to some degree GameFAQs). A thread or collection of threads dedicated to chat war has to potential to be somewhat valuable.

Some would say that little skill is required or even possible in the 150-character-message world of chat rooms, but I say there is a method by which everything can be improved, even if just slightly.
