Firestarter:
comes in, usually mentions euthanasia, Catholicism or right/left wing affiliations and the place errupts. Like troller but completely clueless

Admin Buddy:
completely neutral until his friend the admin comes on, then he gets abusive. Hated by everyone especially other admins, invariably gets banned by other admins or his buddy for making them look bad

Wouldn't Fire Starter be considered a Troller?

no, trollers know what they are doing, this is normally his >10th post and he's completely clueless about what he's doing. It could be a european saying "what are they doing with guns????" or an american saying "why didn't he just shoot him?" Both would end up in the forum splitting in two and both sides going for it while fire-starter just probably blips off not knowing that he's supposed to answer what others have said to him

Hmmm... Now that you have explained it better, I like the Firestarter suggestion. Firestarter is the guy always starting shit up and then saying, "I don't understand why you guys get so worked up and can't just discuss this issue reasonably." In fact, Firestarter is probably the original inspiration for many of Troller's techniques. Unfortunately, as the primary distinguishing factor between Firestarter and Troller is their personal motivation, it is a very difficult distinction or impossible to tell them apart 'in the wild'.

And it is also hard to accept that a veteran poster just doesn't 'get it'.

But if you are saying that Firestarter does this because he is new to the forum and doesn't understand the hot button issues yet, then that is something else. Newbie, I suppose.

As far as Admin Buddy goes, I'm not really clear what you are trying to describe.

he is most definately not a veteran, he's pretty new, stumbles by a thread, makes an innocuous comment (in his own little world, like floating on a cloud) like "but how would you feel if they wanted to turn off your sisters life support" and without realising it the religious and the aethiests are biting eachothers necks.

After that he probably just goes and makes a comment on the merits of php over ASP (which in some places is just as hotly debated...

It depends where he is, he never means to, he's just floating around on his cloud completely oblivious to the fact that there are hotly contested subjects on forums depending on where you are.

Also i think the distinction between him and troller is intent and knowlege. Troller knows *exactly* what he is doing and usually stays for a few posts, firestarter is like: makes a comment and then !poof! nowhere to be seen.

Admin Buddy is just an asshole who thinks that just because he goes to school/college/uni/work with an admin, when that admin is around he can act like a prat. Sometimes the admin owns the site and the people just have to put up with the abuse

Firestarter seems good to me. I believe Admin Buddy is Untouchable, but with a known reason.

Agreed. I've definitely seen Firestarter in action in the fanfic world--that's the who, her first run through online fandom, clicks on a Snape/Harry NC-17 picture and says, "Er, you draw nice, but they aren't gay, and I'll bet J.K. Rowling wouldn't like you doing that with her characters."

Or someone in the Titanic world starting a Lordite thread (don't ask) then walking away. Yep, I've seen 'em too, good one.

There was a ship, the Californian, that was stopped in ice five miles from Titanic when Titanic hit the berg and sank. It was commanded by a man named Stanley Lord. This ship saw the ship in distress, watched eight distress rockets go up, and did nothing. There are apologists for the man, and the slang term for them are Lordites. I told you not to ask!

Oh, I was way of track. I thought it had something to do with Walter Lord's book on the subject, A Night To Remember, and wondered if there was some juicy bit of misinformation to point out on it. I didn't realize the California's captain was also named Lord.

Wasn't the Titanic the biggest most awesome ship in the world? He probably thought they were having a fireworks display or something.

What do you think, he did it out of spite?

Erm, sorry, I'm not an expert on the Titanic or anything, that's just hard to believe some guy intentionally let all those people drown.

I didn't see that in the movie.

Are you sure you aren't making this up? Or was this in the bonus DVD?

Therein lies the contoversy. IMHO, he actually thought the rockets were company signals - but his failure to wake the telegapher on board, and his trying to hide what had happened, is what cooked his goose. If you're really interested, this is a good site, as is this. Even if the guy had gone to the sinking ship (which being stuck in the ice as he was would have been a pretty dumb idea) he wouldn't have been to rescue all that many people - your survival time in 28 degree water is 20 mins to half an hour, period. And his ship was too small to take on everyone from Titanic. His sin was he didn't try.

They asked, I answered. Besides, you bring up Lord on ET all you're gonna get is a bunch of howlers. Much friendlier site is Tom Dyer's Titanic Site Community.

I meant you disregard me until I've spread to your lungs. Hmm. Too much veil, not enough threat.
