This is best done by being just different/obnoxious enough to tick everyone off, but not different/obnoxious enough for the admins to see why everyone hates you. The admins will see only an innocent, persecuted newbie and will probably defend you long after everyone else has realized you're a Troll, staunchly refusing to ban you even when the entire forum cries out to have you silenced.
WARNING: Your credibility will go down the shitter.
This is inspired by my experience at another forum, which I'm actually trying to be a constructive member of. I've made a lot of mistakes there, and now everyone thinks I'm a troll. All but one member wants me banned, but it's not happening because I never broke a rule or ticked off an admin. At this point, however, the slightest infraction would probably get me thrown out.[/b]

I always love trolls who are juuuuuuuuuuuuust subtle enough, just Eddie Haskell enough that admins/mods won't ban them no matter how many calls for their heads are made.
It always used to make me laugh over at the 411mania forums when people would make threads about "OMG, BAN THIS GUY, HE'S A TROLL!" and the mods/admins would just go "........No." |

And yet, you still defend moderators despite how you've seen they have way too much power to control what you can and cannot say. What the hell does that say about you?
And again, I reitorate that your "flame warrior ideas" are just subcategories of pre-existing warriors. What do you think a sycophant is? Perhaps the scyophant's learned a little bit of Rat-fu. Crybaby also seems to suffice, and probably alot better. _________________ The mass, whether it be a crowd or an army, is vile. |

....What does that even have to do with anything he said? |

Everything.
His "tactic" is already a crybaby+rat+sycophant.
His "personal experience" should make him far less accepting of moderators. _________________ The mass, whether it be a crowd or an army, is vile. |

I don't see why he would have a problem though if the mods/admins are on his side.
The way I see it, it's the old standard "Yeah, I know said poster is annoying, but he hasn't technically broken any rules". |

Used to happen at 411mania all the time
A troll would come in and annoy the crap out of people....but it would end there. He wouldn't do anything that would get him dismissed.
So, when people called for said trolls to be banned, the mods pretty much shrugged and said "Sorry, I know this guy's annoying, but he's done nothing wrong, nothing I can do here." |

Yeah, as long as you don't annoy the Mods, or do anything that actually requires their time and effort, they will ignore the idiots calling for your head.
Usually. _________________ -

Some moderators will see exactly why everyone hates a troll, but ignore trolls on purpose. Although I only say that because I did this on a large mmo meta-gaming forum I moderated (and I couldn't stand doing 'fair and balanced moderation', so I tried to get myself demodded for being a terrible mod - it's been two years, and I'm still listed as a mod there).
Still, if I did it, I'm sure others do it too. _________________ Every person alive lives in their own personal alternate reality.
Good luck trying to get other people into yours. |

I've been doing something similar to this. After years of blunt, in-your-face, pottymouth attacks, I decided to take a stab at subtlety. My version is still far more aggressive than the average, but it's defiantly a tone down... for me.
I'm a contributing member (as in paying) at the community I'm currently lurking within. I have realized that when you're paying to play, the mods will let you toss out a fair amount of shit sandwiches before any action is taken. In the last year, I've only received two warnings, and the second one was just about my sig size.
My new trolling tactic is executed in waves; I allow a reasonable amount of time to pass between attacks before I tear into somebody again. Been doing some Hit & Runs, as well. That gives me ample satisfaction until the next large-scale effort. |

Basically, DR waits for a day at the rest home when they aren't playing bingo or serving Jello... |
