When a forum crashes or is taken over by hostile administrators, sometimes an overzealous participant will set up a Mirror World, a pale copy of the original forum. This pale copy rarely comes close to the popularity or vitality of the original, but that doesn't stop some people from trying.
If the Mirror World is successful, it has the potential to severely convolute discussions and arguments when two or more people are members of both or all Mirror Worlds involved, as discussions, disputes, and grudges get strung across multiple forums.
Possibly the best example I've seen of Mirror Worlds is a site I go to, Anti-Rice.com (or just AR). We're dedicated to hating on badly modified cars. Anyway, at one point a few years ago, there were three seperate and distinct ARs following a board crash. I'm glad I wasn't there to see that... |

| 9 times out of 10 (from what I've seen anyway) mirror worlds' are started up by disgruntled trolls or people who think they've been unjustly banned. And 9 times out of 10 these forums have activity from members of the original message board for about two weeks, then it dries up completely. |

I like this and have seen it happen. Technically it happened with FW for 8 months, but that because of server issues and the owner not giving a shit. _________________

I know of several mirror worlds that are still going strong after 7 years. _________________ -
