Yeah, actually I think that a good deal of forum spamming could be fixed with a mod.

Banning emails is useless, the spammers can spend $10 and just spam a heap more from a new address. But spammer are beginning to have something in common ... The registrant.

Spam enabling proxy Registrants and persistent private individuals.

I could put a few - Denns romano, privacyprotect and a couple of other registrants, and a good 80% (I'd go higher but ...) of what posts unwanted spam at this site would have never had occurred.

So what does that mean, the software (be it phpbb vbulletin and others) needs to have access to a common spam whois database, which on each registration or email change, performs a typical whois on the email and sees if the registrant is in the spam database whois.

On true = deactivate user, unless the admin overrides one users account.

Then proxy enablers would only be relevant to people who really want to register domains without any spam hassle for legitimate reasons and they as individuals are not really going to visit forums with their "work" email either.

Spam bot then needs a new ID to try again.

Would free addresses like Hotmail be in that spam database? I typically use Hotmails for all my internet accounts.

Spammers usually use one from the email they are spamming. Or they have a circle, one promotes another which promotes another etc, and actually many that I've noted, hide behind privacyprotect.

Obviously hotmail are large and that wouldn't be good ... but hotmail are not spam enablers, unlike the places spammers are flocking too. What I'm pointing towards is not banning email domains but wish I could ben registrants, especially the anonymous types that offer a service to hide spammers.

I wish they did use temp emails Mly, I've got a trick that screws them on that.

Speaking of temp emails, I no likey them. What happens if you need to reset your password? Then you're finished.

Yes. Then you lose all your post count and all your preferences. If you happen to be a particularly valuable or contributing member, it adds extra work for people trying to view your contributions. And you'll probably get banned for having multiple accounts too.

Yup, real good idea.

Yeah, but usually a person can contact someone on the team to reactivate the account or edit in a legit email.

Mine isn't public anymore because hotmail decided that I need a special broweer with special java to make the send button work. Well I never liked the 2 Meg hotmail wasted to load up every time.

Laughing But chances are they being so successful probably didn't need to spam it, but ... I hate as a result of spammers, online pharmacy stores.

I don't how this is going to pan out.

Today, new "member" after "member" has an email which its domain has the Registrant WhoisGuard via NameCheap.

Interesting.

If google and other search engines weren't enabling this sort of activity they'd give up or resort to old school spamming - Agents

I support a new charter of terms of service for forums and the like:

If a person engages in spam, use spambots or other means to fire off replicate or similar spiel, it automatically authorizes unequivocally the use of any person who happens upon the message, to hack the hell out of the domains involved or acquire the site for whatever means, with the exception of domains that offer emails to interested parties, where upon, one formal contact is required to be sent to the domain with the understanding the next infringement after a 3 day grace period will result in their acceptance to be hacked.

Phone scammers should be required by law to clearly and plainly pronounce in a manner for the recipient to take down the details

a) the physical address of their company in your state
b) mailing address of the company
c) mailing address of the actual phone monkey.

Yes, me too.

Especially yesterday's session where in 9 hours there were 271 spam posts to deal with - 6 pages of "new since you were last here" search results.

Today not so bad, just 21 or so.

I only wish I could lock Art of war (the forum - no new topics), as pretty much most of their spam would just bounce off.

I guess when you know how easy it is to screw up spammers by some simple organization - it'd blow your mind.

People were chasing better capture mods and all the rest, but seriously, there's a powerful amount of control if you use usergroups right. ie registered members can only post in some hidden forum that not even search engines have access to. Suddenly even bots don't want to log in, Well it's not "want," they have other bots spider to see if they have success and when is the best time to launch attacks.

Yeah sorry about that ... I'm only on the net once a day for the moment.

Just 37 for the day.

I've got to move back my hours on the computer and get outdoors more ... get a life Very Happy - rather than removing spam or blocking bots most hours of the day that could be quelled with banning just a handful of email addresses.

Oh well.

If anyone wants to screw with the latest bot MovzPierneInhiple

just login with that username 6 times in a row every 31 or 32 minutes.

I was doing this the other day and eventually its user set that bot to bang on the forum every minute or so because ...

Good news is, Dennis has been F'ed over or something as his bots have ceased once again.

*violently pummels his way through the roof of the thread and drops in, panting* I came--*gasp*--as fast as I...could. Hah, hah... *takes a deep breath* When you say "child related," do you mean that as in "CP?" If so, where?

The spammer is careful not to use images but lists that the sites has some

eg from today,

true preteen rape stories
child rape kennedy

Obviously it's just throwing in search strings, but I still don't want any child rape shit here, fake promises or not.

Privacy Protect, if they were fair dinkum, would have pulled the plug on this spammer as soon as it was reported.

Not PP though, they specialty service is - dealing with the "spam" for their clients by sending back a generic email it's (you know spambots spam whatever) beyond their control. Which is why I don't bother including a valid email on their report form anymore. They even tried to fuddle ICANN.

Anyone up to filing a report that medic-pills.org dns record is wrong.

PP today denies that medic-pills is under their control.
