The Quoter is so inarticulate that his posts consist almost entirely of quoted material: articles, expert opinions, portions of others' posts, and of course, for the religious type, scriptural quotes. The quote is generally used to state the Quoter's own position. If he ever does actually express himself in his own words, the arguments are so weak, or badly written, that you can see why he has to rely on outside support.

This appears to be similar to the Cut 'n' Paste. I think it'd be good to combine your suggestion with that one and the Linker (same post) into one single Warrior. Maybe call the whole big thing a Referencer or something.

Yeah, seems similar to Cut'n'Paste, except that the types I've run into never scold you for not reading the whole thing. They just post quotes, and that is virtually the only argument you get from them. They just rely on the authority of the quoted material to make their point, or say what they want said. Sometimes they are forced to be linkers, if the forum (usually a board format) prohibits extensive use of quoted material.

I'm a listowner, and have got one of these on my email forum, with two posts sitting in the box, waiting for approval, that simply quote me, and another prominent poster. After a several of this type of thing, seeing those tonight made me irritated enough to come here and suggest that a person like this should be spoofed. I've seen the type elsewhere, too. In fact, insane quoters seem to pop up frequently on unmoderated forums, where there's no one to stop them.

Oh no, I agree they are different. However, the Quoter, Cut 'n' Paste, and Linker are very similar in the abstract. They all have one common and core trait: They present references rather than their own arguments. The Quoter quotes people and throws in a few comments, the Cut 'n' Paste quotes massive amounts of text and scolds those who don't read them, and the Linker is either too lazy or polite (in terms of decreasing spam) to paste anything but a link. None of them can really hold their own, so they site the works of others.

I believe the three of them could be combined into one Warrior. Warrior-types tend to be broad, encompassing a range of similar action their ilk may commit. Of course, since I didn't suggest any of the three, it would be rude of me to compile them into a combined Warrior myself.

That's not always a bad thing. A lot of good warriors (Kung Fu Masters and Admins and Nannies?) often try to stop a runaway argument that's going nowhere by quickly quoting two different people who already made the same argument/counterargument.

For example, there was a thread where several religious warriors who kept quoting the bible, and people who kept countering with statements that the bible was fiction, despite the fact that this argument was first made on the thread's first page. The mod simply quoted the essential words of that first argument in an attempt to get people to move on (which they didn't).

True, but they do not rely entirely on quoting others in order to attack. Most warriors will use occassionally use quotes and external references, but these three have nothing else.

I have no problem with combining all three into one -- because you are correct: They all have the common feature of using the words of others rather than their own. What we need is a good name for that single warrior type.

Hrm. I like the Referencer, but it's a bit plain. Maybe focus on the lack of personal strength. Constant Echo, anyone?
