So how exactly do their posts end up like that? Are the bots themselves all screwed up at times? Is it an internal script on this site? Is it a simple well-placed Unicode switch character (probably also done by a script)? (I don't know how those work exactly, but I hear they tell a computer to read text as something other than Unicode, which I figure would produce garbled nonsense.)

Well it's a japbid bot, so I'd guess if you had a Japanese font loaded it would look familiar.

The english in it is readable, so are the links, so nothing is screwed up.

I never really understood how spambots were programmed, and wonder if the programmers behind it, benefit from it.

I remember a while back when Yahoochat used to be a great place to chat, until the spambot exponently increased over the years. About 90% of the occupants are spambots.

It reminds of the insects that survive the pesticide sprays, and the off spring become immune to it. Spam seems to work the same way.

@Fence: I don't know how Unicode works, but I don't think that's it. I do know that every run-of-the-mill PC today uses Unicode, though. (Or that's what I think; I know jack shit, really.) And I can see and even use Japanese just fine under any other circumstances. Watch:

@TXRT: Ugh. Yeah. So you end up having to use stuff that just kills everything, no questions asked, and quarantining the entire area for a while. Problem is that part of the analogy doesn't carry over to the interconnected networks.

Good question. Arch means a lot of things to me. The Arch in St Louis, The Archies, Archie Bunker,.. or possible screen name or type of warrior on this site I haven't come across?

Hmm. Either you're trying to hide from me (Unlikely, I'd think; if you're who I thought you wouldn't have much of a motive to. He's friendly toward me... when he's around, at least.) or you're not him.

... Maybe I wasn't quite transparent enough. This should make it crystal clear, if you're him, and without setting off a billion and a half alarms for the paranoid sorts that might be watching this paranoid sort: Two answers. I'd prefer to have both if you'd (I'm assuming you're him right now for the sake of not being cumbersome with the wording.) be so kind. A thing you use, and a place you know. Maybe PM me the answers if you know them and have mentioned both frequently. The staff here could read it, I'd imagine. But they're generally fine with any plots of wacky ridiculousness and such so long as they're not in the crosshair.

@TXRT: Interesting idea, actually. But there's next to no manpower for any such thing even if there's interest. *sad face*

@Fence: Hmmm. Well, I don't have a good idea how fonts work. I just know a little about character encoding and so on. I'm probably wrong five dozen ways to Tuesday. But to me the moon-speak I put in looks fine, whereas the bot's whatever-the-hell looked to be complete gibberish, so I'd imagine the site doesn't just automatically detect Japanese and change it to a nonsensical mess of Latin characters, or it would've done the same to mine.
