This guy is not terribly interested in the subject at hand, or at least shows no tendancy to keep on topic. Every post "reminds him of a story" or is connected in some obscure way to a subject he is interested in - and he will derail any discussion not to his tastes and then dominate it. However, unlike Ego, the subject need not be about him, it merely needs to be about something he is interested/knowledgeable about - which makes for some interesting juxtapositions. You will find he writes comments like "Oh yes, you had your suit made in Hong Kong - do you know about the Queen Elizabeth, sunk in the harbor there?" if he is an expert on ships, or "Yes, I watched the Twin Towers fall, that cloud reminded me of the pyroclastic flow that buried Pompeii" if he is into vulcanology, essentially astonishing all with the bizarre turns the thread makes under his leadership.

Derailer? I think has been covered already though I can't find the thread. I could have sworn I saw it on here somewhere.

Derailers can be a pain, on my boards I have a few people who tend to do that, one post literally went from being a discussion about cleaning a gun to leather pants to cowboys to Mad Max to being about Man Cards (got me) to gross stories to kids crapping their pants to how much Florida sucks to finally ending up being about the movie PCU. I was so scared I avoided the thread about halfway through. It just spiraled completely out of control.

Sounds a bit like Issues, except that Derailer's passion is not necessarily some kind of injustice. I think this suggestion calls for a slight expansion of the Issues Warrior. Me like.

No, Issues is a completely different person - he/she has an axe and wants to grind it 24/7. Derailer just finds it impossible to stay on topic unless ridden herd on by a mod or admin. I think it's caused by too much MTV and not enough real life.

Don't worry about resuggesting a warrior. There is some good when someone puts foward a similar warrior, without knowing that it had been put forward before.

Anyhow Mike has said that some tme, when he has the time, to complete an ideas page. It looks like a massive task though.

It's been my experience that Derailers/Hijackers fall into two categories.

The first are the ones who do it on purpose. They just plain love screwing up a meaningful thread. Their motive is a mystery to me. I could say they feel upset they have nothing to offer, but that would just be my dislike of them talking.

The second are the ones who do it unthinkingly. In my experience these are more common than malicious derailers/hijackers. They treat the message board like a delayed-action chatroom. There's no negative intent involved; it is merely socializing. While this can be fairly thoughtless to others, it can usually be curbed with the intervention of members they respect or light-handed moderation.

OK, so Hijackers do it deliberately, whilst Derailrrs don't realize they do it. Works for me.

As a person with ADHD i resent that. A person with ADD would get bored with the topic and leave. If they did hijack it they would simply be e member of another poster type, none of which are open exclusively to those with ADD.

Wheelie computer chair, yes, Wheel chair, no.

When you decide to respond in an intelligent manner, you will find me ready to engage you in battle. As it stands, i see no reason to respond to your petty provocation in kind.

I don't see the need to "engage in battle." As far as provocations go, you drew first blood with your ADD victocrat criticism of my post.

You whined about some ADD comment of mine like you were missing two arms and a leg and I made fun of amputees. It's ADD, get over it. We have a term for the overly sensitive: cryababy.

Sorry, I don't want to flame you, but saying you resent such an innocuous comment about freaking ADD puts you in the Crybaby/Weenie category, IMO.

Nut up! This is a forum which criticizes Internet posts and posters. Did you expect warm and fuzzy sensitivity?

What i find interesting is how you can find a counterpoint to be a "crybaby" stance, though i guess in your book "i dont like what you said, and here is why its wrong" is a crybaby stance Laughing

I dedicated all of eight words to saying that i didnt like the ADD comment, and offered a counterpoint after it (easily the majority of that post) which showed how your comment was incorrect. It is also the section that you have handily ignored Dog, in favour of the good ol argumentum ad hominem (Latin name used because the english translation loses some of the power, and does not adequately represent the nature of the fallacy).

A wise man once told me that when a person resorts to using tactics that fall under the heading of the fallacy, they have simply rrun out of coherent arguments, or simply have so little confidence in those arguments that they instead feel the need to "sling mud" at thier opponent to "strengthen" thier crumbling position.

And as for sensitivity? No, i dod not expect it, and i would indeed be suprised if i found it here. What i do expect is intelligence (Except from Rebel Without A Clue and Stone Deaf, who are just having fun) and an ability in posters to see what is actually said, and not take what you think you see, and run with it as though it was the absolute truth. I like the way youi pretend to know how im thinking, i can see it in your posts from comments such as these:

But the simple fact is that you gotten it all wrong, and if you decide to continue this exchange, you will find out just how wrong you are in your read of me. Tell me, would you like to back down with your dignity intact, and actually avoid a direct confrontation, or would you rather get torn to shreds in front of this entire forum?

Your choice.

Someone has decided that i would make a good target. Thats enough for me to fully arm myself.

It really is a pity about me going back to Australia tomorrow. Wont have regular net access, but enough to do what needs to be done here. I wont be able to post on the 15th (tomorrow) however, as the flight is a nine hour one, and leaves at 9am local time. Given the three hour time difference i will be landing at 9pm Sydney time, and then going to a friends house to stay while i look for a place to rent/buy.

Edit: typo.
