I have seen on a number of forums, a person who says this
| Quote: |
| This forum has been a great support to me for years now, however, I no longer feel comfortable sharing our life with some of the people who view the information. So I will say goodbye to the true friends and I will miss you. |
usually after some kind of debate / flame war and it is usually to stir up sympathy ..... like OMG pleeeeze don't go
I have even seen moderators use this ruse
It's like... oh well I can't win this one, so I'll dramatically fall on my sword or pretend to, and everyone will come over to my side.

I'd classify the above as a tactic, not a flame warrior, and call it "Good Bye Cruel World." A more blunt version meant to elicit anger instead of sympathy would be "Adi-fucking-os and unsubscribe." I've seen both. _________________ "Sometimes it's more important to have the right enemies than it is to have the right friends. Yes, you're correct it is a tactic .....
but I have seen some who seem to specialize in this tactic.
It's just that quite a number don't actually leave the forum

Those who specialize in this tactic are already on the roster. See: Ennui. _________________ Everything that has transpired in this thread has done so according to my design.

Not really
Ennui is boredom, and Ennui the warrior leaves because of boredom.
This is
I can't win this fight
or I can't get my own way
I need lots of sympathy
so a public statement like
oh woe is me
I'm so offended so I'm going to leave
and then people rush in
ooh nooo - pleeeze don't go
The sad offspring of "Ennui" and "Innocence abused" - sort of
A person who debates a lot
and in one case I know uses a lot of astro-turf
but can't handle losing
BTW has "astro-turf" been suggested as a warrior ?
multiple fake online personalities
sort of like the famous terracotta army
looks the part but all from the same mold

I'm fairly certain that the motive behind a tactic doesn't matter. The warrior type that is experienced in this that you're looking for is still Ennui. _________________ Everything that has transpired in this thread has done so according to my design.

This is good, but unfortunately it's already been suggested. I believe the warrior is called the "Long Goodbyer" and I forget the name of the tactic. I think it's been suggested as a tactic twice. _________________
