| Once in a blue moon, a forum poster is born with the ability to drain the very life force from a forum, and store it within himself. While he resides in the forum, no ill effects can be seen, but when he leaves, calamity ensues. The spirit of the board vanishes without a trace. The board may continue in a normal fashion for a week or so, but eventually the regulars disappear, newbies stop coming and the board shuts through inactivity. The Life Force could appear to be anyone, but no matter how unecessary or annoying they appear, when they leave the forum everything grinds to a halt. Should the Life Force attempt to start their own board, his draining abilities will make sure it never gets off the ground. |

seems kinda vague
is it because the poster is so popular that the forum shuts down? |

| Not necessarily. It can be any random member who happens to wander onto the board. I have a friend who does this. Only the best and biggest boards can survive it. |

I think it might be more appropriate to name this person "Life of the Party." Also I think that would help convey what you are talking about better, though I get your meaning. _________________

I dont think Lifeforce needs to be the Life of the party. Maybe a forum only worked as long as what keeps it going remains diffuse. If someone comes along and recognizes what it is about, begins to embody it (doesnt even have to know hes doing it, nor is there need for anyone else to recognise whats going on) and then leaves, suddenly all start asking themselves "what the hell am i doing here, it really makes no sense". Its like a devine fate chosing an innocent for its purposes of senseless destruction. |

There is no such thing as a life force. It simply does not exist. _________________ Bring me back to the index |

All i can remember is a brief quip from from a banner on a forum i saw a couple of years ago.:
"Stone Deaf is one of the few invincible warriors. His strategy is maddeningly effective: He simply ignores any arguments he doesnt like."
I never read the extended description (If there even was one).
It is also my suspicion that our brand new Stone Deaf is the same person as Rebel Without A Clue (Who recently vanished) and Grunter. Im finding it easy to ignore him.
ON TOPIC:
I would think that this proposal would be better as more of an effect, as it is not uncommon for the "life force" of the forum to be centered around a group of active members, those who keep new topics rolling out, and keep the current ones active. If these people were to vanish, either someone else would have to take up the role or the forum dies.
I also dont think a newcomer would be capable of doing this, if only because everyone has a little Xenophobe in them. |

Hi Grim, I think everyone who isn't clueless realises that. It's just a bit of "fun" to have them about. I think of him as a sort of weather stone, in that, how others react to him, allows a little insigtht to them. I won't say RWaC is now posing as Stone Deaf, someone could just be spoofing him.
Life force is an interesting suggestion. Depends on how you view it.
I've seen the arrival of a new warrior, which changes the dynamics of the existing forum. They cause a quiet chain reaction, which is hard to explain. Perhaps it is just an increase in hostility or sharp posts or maybe the action of a subtle increase of Tiny Yappers. (I could specualate though, a carming effect would work to upset the forum dynamics, as well).
The elevation of certin types of posts, convinces many they should look to spend more time at other forums. That is as much as I've seen. I'll wait and see what happens when they leave.
I'd guess that when the Life Force, then moves on, there is not eough momentum to keep the wheels turning. Members who once posted there, are not keen, to habit there any more. _________________ The important thing is knowing who owns the fence |

ok, this is the last off-topic post, I swear
I honestly like it when warriors are spoofed here
I think it's quite funny
so I honestly don't mind Grunter or Stone Dear or RwaC at all. |

I believe I know the type of person you're talking about, but I've never seen their activity as sinister. They're more like a catalyst. Much as a catalyst aids and (in many cases) accelerates chemical reactions without getting used up in the process, these people aid forum activity. Of course, if the forum becomes dependent on this type of person, the sudden activity drop when s/he leaves often causes other people to leave because they think the forum's dying. In itself, this is also a chain reaction. People see other people leaving and get the idea the forum's dying too... similar to a self-fulfilling prophecy. _________________

It is a good thing that they don't exist. A forum dying because of one person leaving, yeesh wouldn't see that coming. _________________ Bring me back to the index |
