The Cynic has came to the conclusion that the best way to appear intelligent on the Internet is to take unfailingly cynical and pessimistic view of the world. Everything's doomed to failure. Everybody acts on selfish principles, and homo homini lupus will always hold true, at least as far as Cynic is concerned. Whenever there's an act of kindness somewhere, the selfish motives behind it are soon apparent to the Cynic, and it won't do what it was intended to do anyway. Oh, and everyone who doesn't think so is a ninny.

The Cynic is often seen discussing topics such as the utter corruption of every important person in the world, the futility of charity and occasionally even his own lack of friends, especially among the opposite sex. (Cynic loves the Ladder Theory, naturally.) As the Cynic will consistently parade his worldview no matter what the discussion is and no matter if a forum member or two happens to be personally involved, he'll often get shouted at, which the Cynic dismisses as the mewlings of those who aren't as worldwise as he is.

Cynic's opposite - and opponent - is naturally Bliss Ninny. On the other hand, Acne will often look up to the Cynic (no wonder, that, considering Acne often *is* a larval stage of the Cynic) and Jerk will, at least, admire his tendency to get a rise out of people. While Cynic is predictable, he can be a fairly good warrior - as he often possesses some intelligence, wit (concentrated on sarcasm) and most of all the knowledge that so many people on the Internet think like him.

I think the ladder theory of relationships is actually pretty naive and optimistic. The truth is much more sordid, imo.

I guessed that someone would mention Acne. The main differences, as I see it, is that Cynic's actually got some of the smarts that Acne may think he has. All that Acne's done is listen to Nine Inch Nails, Cynic's probably read a book or two or three or thirty and may even present an argument with some originality behind it. Furthermore, Cynic doesn't whine about his life, at least nearly as much as Acne does - or as openly, at any rate: there's more a of an undercurrent of not being a success that's going on in his posts.

Cynic is what Acne might become in 7-10 years time.

...hm. I guess that'll teach me the benefits of registration.

Needless to say, the "I was wrong this is acne" message is not mine. Nice try, though.

...wait, no it wasn't.

I see your point, though I'm still not sure that's enough of a difference for a whole new warrior.

The cynic is acne, plain and simple. Not a difference exists.
