Jackals

ALLIES: none in particular
ENEMIES: Target, Interferer, Diplomat, Jailor, Ninny Admin, Newbie
POSSIBLE DOUBLE IDENTITIES: Swarm, Cyber Sisters, Howlers, Rivals

The worst nightmare of Nanny and Ninny Admin, Jackals are comprised of a diverse group or list of members, who all share 2 things: 1) a common enemy, and 2) a thirst for combat

At some point in time, Target, be it a single individual or several united individuals, will cross paths with Jackals. Whenever Target wades into battle, the Jackals all band together and attempt to rip him apart, piece by piece. During this time, Jackals get along well with one another, and productive discussions are always centered on Target and how much the Jackals hate him/her. Targets can remain in battle with Jackals for weeks, months, even years, yet after awhile, the Jackals prevail and Target is nothing more than bloody scraps.

However, it is when Target does not exist in the realm of the Jackals, or when Target is defeated, that Jackals show what defines them as a warrior. For Jackals, even though they often share a common interest and share other common ground with one another, really seem only to want to fight. As such, they rarely contribute anything meaningful to the forum, because there is no longer an enemy to center topics around. Any topics or discussions unrelated to Target don’t live long, or devolve into arguments.

With the lack of a common enemy, all unity goes out the window, and the Jackals turn on one another, trying to rip each other’s throats out in civil warfare. As a result of the inner turmoil, former Jackals will usually become the next Target, or the fighting ends because a Newbie arrives and becomes the next Target. Jailor is driven crazy by all the threads he repeatedly locks as a result of the battle, and Interferer and Diplomat try to enter the fray, only to be met with the same ferocity.

This cycle will continue, until the group finally destroys itself from within when members have had enough, or Admin decides to write off his losses and closes the forum. NOTE: It is not uncommon to see Cyber Sisters and Howlers turn into Jackals.

I like this one and it is definitely original. However, there really is no invincible anything. Destroying themselves from within and the forum closing aren't the only possible outcomes here. They may get bored. They may get flattened by other members who take all the fun out of fighting (Lamer is especially good at this). They may get banned. Hell, they may find a new target on a new bored, decide the board they're on is no longer a good hunting ground, and move on.

True, they are not invincible, and any of the things you mention can happen. The biggest thing to keep in mind, warrior-distinction wise, is the fact that they turn on one another once there is a lack of a common enemy.

I saw plenty of these in a forum I used to belong to, and they actually formed an outside "slam group", which was basically the majority of the same members, but the conversations centered on trashing the "enemies" of the group, and when the enemies were quiet, they started going after one another. Eventually the sub-group shut down, but the forum still remains today, though without the vitality it once had.

I hadn't even considered Lamer as a possible buzzkill for Jackals. Good addition. The role you mentioned for him works well Smile

I didn't notice it. Did this happen as you posted it up?

Only the spammer has their posts deleted. For a moment I thought zboog had posted up an old pic of himself, but on a closer look I didn't think so. (I can only just remember the only decent pic I found, the one of him out in NY.)
