Flame wars often get intense, with regulars pummeling each other mercilessly. Sometimes Newbie strolls into the inferno, only to be flash-fried. On other occasions, something more sinister happens. A foreign warrior appears on the forum for the very first time, abruptly appearing amid the battle and begins cutting down warriors. The strength and the unusual amount of information makes it clear this warrior is a soldier of fortune.
The Mercenary is often a powerful warrior, enlisted to supplement the forces on one side of the battle. Almost never alone, several of these soldiers or fortune are usually brought in at the same time. Though known to sometimes walk the Earth, lending aid by his own volition, he is most often explicitly hired into a war.
Lacking personal involvement in a fight, Mercenary is harder to damage/enrage with standard weapons. If anything, they might just make him fight harder.
Funfact: The Mercenary creedo is: "Have flame, will travel."
