| Mime doesn't counter words with words, but rather with descriptions of how he's physicaly reacting to the topic at hand. Taunting, cajoling, supporting or showing displeasure or disagreement with short statements such as *vomits* *applauds* *cheers* or assanine attempts at humor like *giggles and runs off* or *hits you in head with a hammer* is the bulk of Mime's arsenal. Mime is difficult to bring down because he never actualy deploys any weapon in battle that has an obvious counter. Proven tactics like spotting inconsistancies, logical fallicies or other staples of veteran warriors are useless against Mime. And sinking to his level only results in a long, drawn out and awkward series of posts that conjure up images of an old Three Stooges comedy. Much like his real-world namesake, Mime is loathed by just about everyone. |

These guys are definitely annoying. From what I've seen, they usually occur in pairs on in groups, and they carry on like this among themselves in one spam-filled thread after another. Their postcount goes through the roof, and voila - oldbie or even royal status before you know it. At least that's what happened on an old forum I used to frequent.
As a species, they're likely related to Pictionary and excessive smiley users... |

I can understand the confusion. Post Gluttons just post to get their count up, and Convoers post a nonsense conversation to derail a thread. Both basically fill a forum with garbage for their own stupid reasons. This, on the other hand, is someone whose posts are entirely worthless, posting for the sole purpose of making it clear they are there. Their comments are less pertinent than grunts, and rarely on-topic.
These jackasses are sort of like the tail side of the Lurker coin. They always make their presense known, but whether or not they have a thought in their heads is a mystery. While they make their feelings known... sort of... they rarely express anything outside of a brief emote. Every so often, they de-jackass and actually get involved, much to the surprise of everyone else.
Despite the similarity, these are not Lurkers, just extremely annoying. I've made reference to a similar type of thing which in Implosion / Black Hole thread. Lurkers who announce they are lurking.

I like this suggestion, but I think it is too strong to say that Mime is loathed by just about everyone. Mime is more in the vein of Tiny Yapper, imo, in that people know he is not a threat and so they mostly just ignore him. Only really uptight warriors, such as Archivist and Tireless Rebutter, get overly perturbed by Mime's tactics.

I disagree with the characterization that I'm the only type of person to be annoyed by these people. Anyone who takes a discussion seriously or dislikes meaningless drivel showing up amidst an otherwise productive debate despises Mime.
